Charlene 這首 I've Never Been To Me 在80年代初走紅全世界，但實際上這首歌早在1976年就發行過。

Charlene 在1976年的首張個人專輯「Charlene」已收錄「I've Never Been To Me」，也有發行單曲，但排行成績很差，專輯賣的不好，沒打出知名度。

1977年的「Songs Of Love」專輯再次收錄「I've Never Been To Me」，這張專輯只是將前一年「Charlene」專輯重新包裝再販售，但有一兩處小變化 -- 這張專輯中的「I've Never Been To Me」不知為何將原本曲中的口白刪掉。

1980年 Charlene 有發新專輯的計畫，錄了一些歌，先發行單曲向市場探路，但成績仍然很差。唱片公司不滿意，Charlene 也對演藝事業意興闌珊，結果雙方就解約。Charlene 退出歌壇後，因為宗教信仰結識男友，隨後結婚，跟丈夫回英國定居，在 Sweet Shop 工作。哇，Sweet Shop，不就小雜貨店？！

1982年，美國有位電台DJ因為很喜歡 Charlene 的「I've Never Been To Me」，就在節目中播放，沒想到造成一股旋風，點播率越來越高。唱片公司打鐵趁熱，將 Charlene 在1980年退出歌壇前已錄製但未發行的一些作品，加上這首鹹魚翻身的「I've Never Been To Me」集結成新專輯。終於，因為這次事件這首歌才成為世界知名歌曲，專輯賣的好，Charlene 也回來當歌手了。

1982年「I've Never Been To Me」走紅是因為DJ播放舊曲，他就是播1976年的原曲。詳情在 Charlene 的網站有明確陳述：

Mary MacGregor 在1978年專輯「In Your Eyes」裡翻唱了「I've Never Been To Me」。

但是播出的這首歌並非「In Your Eyes」專輯中的版本，這歌我是在「音樂時光隧道」看到別人播的，播放人說是從當年很流行的「流行45熱唱卡帶」中所轉錄出來的，編曲改編成輕快的感覺。

據說「In Your Eyes」專輯裡收錄的是慢版的，風格就很像 Charlene 的原曲，但我從未聽過。哪位善心人士能播來聽聽看啊？！
